Vision Impact Research Group (VIRG)

The Vision Impact Research Group (VIRG) is convened by Lil Deverell and meets quarterly in Melbourne CBD. Meetings are open to anyone engaged in vision-related research, whether located in the university sector or in the community.

Group participants are interested in the everyday functional impact of low vision and blindness and might be:

  • investigating vision-related questions
  • delivering vision-related client services
  • looking for support with research design, recruitment of participants or writing
  • wanting to collaborate in research partnerships and funding applications
  • studying with low vision or blindness

VIRG aims to support students undertaking higher research degrees, and provide a neutral space for inter-agency collaboration. Remote researchers can network with group members via email. Participation in quarterly meetings might also be possible through tele-link (phone, FaceTime or Skype) – contact Lil to organise beforehand.

VIRG meets at ECCO Café, 8 Nicholson St, East Melbourne. This venue is one block from Parliament Station and the easiest entry is just around the corner in Victoria Parade. The group meets upstairs in the mezzanine level. Unfortunately there is no lift access – if this is a problem for anyone who wants to come, we will explore other venues. Come when you can and stay as long as you are able. Remaining meetings for 2016 are planned for:

  • Friday 3 June, 2-5pm
  • Friday 19 August, 2-5pm
  • Friday 11 November, 2-5pm
